Woodside Primary School

Woodside Academy?

We are now thinking about our next 60 years with serious consideration of academy status for Woodside. We have applied for an “Academy Order” which will give us the funding to take us through the next stage with a possible start date of 1st October. Throughout the process we are interested in the views of parents, staff and the wider community including other local schools. Please email your views to headteacher@woodsideprimary.org . The consultation closes on Friday 29th May.

High Five Play-Off

Well done to our High Five team who came second in the play-off against all the top teams in Thurrock.

Footpath

There have been some reports of suspicious activity in the woods and for this reason we advise that children do not walk to or from school across the heath on their own.

Teaching Vacancy

We are looking for a full time teacher for KS2 for September and a part time early years teacher for September or January. Further details on our “Work at Woodside” page.

Chicken Rearing

Class 1F have been investigating growing things and have raised some chickens from eggs. They will be keeping the hens to get more eggs and we are creating an area where they have room to live but are safe from foxes.

Woodside’s 60th

We celebrated our very own diamond jubilee,  marking 60 years from when the first school opened on 28th April 1952. Staff and children dressed as they would have then for a special journey back in time. During the morning children were exceeding well-behaved as they learnt to calculate in £s shillings and pence and to write with a dipped pen. Ex pupil and Thurrock Heritage Officer Jonathan Catton came to talk to the children about life in the 50s. We served a traditional school dinner of sausages and mash with jam sponge and custard followed by 1950s fairground activities including a Punch and Judy show and a carousel. Former staff and pupils visited the school to see how it had changed and talk to children about their experiences. Thank you to everyone for taking so much trouble to dress your children so authentically for the day and especially to the Friends of Woodside who organized and paid for the afternoon activities.

Carlton Darrell MBE

Mr Darrell was a former deputy head at Woodside and established  the Badminton club and much of our sporting tradition here before going on to be head of Chadwell St Mary Primary. He was made an MBE the other year for his services to Badminton. Mr Darrell came to talk to children about Woodside in the 60s and 70s.

Food Inspection Rating

Our kitchen facilities have been awarded the highest grade; 5 (very good) in the new scheme which assesses all establishments serving food on the same criteria.
